Frippits are tiny little creatures that bring ideas to writers. They’re not quite Muses, although they’re very similar.
A Muse provides inspiration for artists of all varieties. They’re goddesses, often considered very nymph-like. Frippits are merely the bringers of ideas (think delivery boys) and are specific to writers. If you’ve ever had an idea just randomly popped into your head, without any thought as to where it came from, that was courtesy of a Frippit. They also come in a variety of shapes, colors and textures. At least, this is what we assume… they rarely stay long enough to be seen.
Sniggledy Frippits are a bit temperamental. They are the entire reason you see writers scribbling ink onto napkins, the reason we carry notepads in our pockets and purses. Because Sniggledy Frippits are known for stealing their ideas back, and they have a tendency to deliver their most fabulous ideas at the most inopportune moments. Their favorite times to appear, in my experience, are when you’re in the shower and just as you’re falling asleep.
No one is quite sure if the Frippits come up with all the ideas themselves, or if they simply draw them from a secret Frippits pool and deliver them. How we are selected to become the recipients of said ideas is also a mystery. Of course, to my knowledge, no one has ever asked. And if one were to ask, who’s to say a Frippit would respond?
